Where do dark spots on the face come from?
Dark spots — or solar lentigines — are areas where melanin accumulates excessively. Melanin is the natural pigment that gives skin its colour and protects it from UV. When skin is repeatedly exposed to the sun, the melanocytes (the cells that produce melanin) eventually go haywire.
Instead of producing an even tan, they overproduce pigment in patches, creating concentrated deposits of melanin that form the visible spots.
The triggers are well established:

Gentle exfoliation: speeding up turnover
Dark spots are clusters of melanin trapped in the upper layers of the epidermis. The faster your cell turnover, the sooner those pigmented cells are shed and replaced by new, less pigmented ones.
Exfoliation speeds up that natural process.
The chemical exfoliants best suited to spots:

Important precautions:
